When I started my journey back to health (will be 4 years this spring), I found a great podcast that gave me good info and hope. It is the LowCarb MD podcast. One of those 2 docs, Brian Lenzkes, has started a companion podcast Life’s Best Medicine where he can delve into the faith aspects of health & healing.

So why do I mention these guys? Both were overweight - Dr. Tro was morbidly obese. They got away from traditional allopathic medicine .... to do this, they had to quit their high stress, high patient load practices and go into Direct Primary Care. This has put quality and patient care back into their practices. Other docs are doing this as well. No insurance accepted, so the insurance companies do not get between doc and patient. Instead of a 4,000 patient load, they see generally under a thousand - Doc Lenzkes started out with 400 patients who truly wanted his advice/care - most were reversing their Type 2 Diabetes. DPC seems to be a good model for true patient care - instead of 5-10 minutes allowed on the schedule, these DPC docs typically can take an hour, even longer. Need a physical? How about tomorrow? Need the doc? Text him/her at any time or they’ll see you in the office same day.

Physician suicide is very high - it’s even higher among women physicians. These folks typically get into medicine to “help people” and then get caught up in the ‘medical industrial complex’ and quickly become disillusioned and overworked. On top of that, I do believe SOME of the docs who have (and still are) refusing to treat COVID patients with therapeutics that will keep them out of the hospital COVID death wards, will eventually wake up & realize how complicit they have been in the mass murder of hundreds of thousands of people who otherwise would have survived COVID. As Dr. Tyson says, he can put his head down on his pillow at night and SLEEP (at the time of his book, 7K treated, ZERO deaths & I think 4 ended up hospitalized, usually because they came to him too late). In the UK, physician suicides are happening at the rate of 1 per week.

The medical community has lost the trust of a lot of people and it’s not coming back any time soon. Here on FR, as FReepers tell of visits to their docs and the attitudes they’ve been subjected to, lectures on vax, lack of treatment, etc. ..... it’s illustrative of the general medical environment in the ‘age of COVID’; however, it’s pulled the masks off what is really going on ( a pill for everything, no root causes discovered/corrected) & people will be looking for docs who will truly treat them as fellow human beings, with compassion & care.

Sorry for the ‘rant’, but this topic is a real burr under my saddle blanket. BTW, Scott Quiner died yesterday - hospital in MN killed him. It took a court order & a couple of lawyers to get him transferred, but it was too late - doctor who agreed to actually care for him said he’d never seen a patient in such a malnourished condition in his years of practice. Scott is safe in his Shepherd’s arms - he did get to some level of consciousness before he died - I hope he realized he was in a safe, caring setting and I hope he got to see his wife. The hospital/docs in MN need to be criminally charged ... Thomas Renz was involved in this case and he’s on a mission to save people and hold the criminals in the medical community accountable. I suspect Scott’s family is too worn out to sue, but we’ll see what happens.

BTW, see my comment here .... Dr. Lynn Fynn with some important info on Omicron & why some folks end up in the hospital after Omicron & the care you need vs the care you’re likely to get.

Great post. I wonder what the two Direct Primary Care doctors do when they encounter a patient who genuinely needs major surgery or the like. I’m sure most doctors would like to have healthy or near healthy patients and generally practice to keep them that way, but the real world is harder than that.

Not a snark; I really wonder.

Good rant @52

I was pre-med in college and chose of my own accord to not go into medicine. I had the grades and scores and turned down the opportunities for another path.

I was a center-right typical college kid who was naive about the world and those who run it.

I worked in and around the health care profession in those years and I really believed that the future of medicine was “wellness”.

Preventative care and a regimen of monitoring health via testing and screening for high risk disease based on genetics or other predispositions/lifestyle would change the world as we knew it. I believed half of medicine would be focused on this. How many times did I hear “if we had only caught this earlier”?

A great idea isn’t it? That was over 30 years ago......

Why did this not happen? Why do most doctors not practice aggressive preventative medicine focused on patient wellness?

There is no money in it and none of them are really trained to do it. It pains me to say that but I know it is true. Corporate medicine and medical academic institutions have been co-opted by money. Big pharma, insurance, and Uncle Sugar are all more important than the Hippocratic oath.

What would the world look like if medicine focused on prevention and early intervention for illness? How many cancers would be caught early and require minimal intervention? How much heart disease would be caught early and treated prior to heart attacks? How many Covid deaths would have been prevented if people were on vitamin D supplementation?

I will never know. The technology already exists between smart phones and home testing machines to monitor much of our own health but it is very hard to find such technology. Why? I have been told that powerful interests work to prevent such ideas from coming to market but I don’t know if that is true or just some conspiracy theory. I do know that some new cars can be monitored via a simple smart-phone app for diagnostics. Why not our own body/health?

Our corporate bureaucratic healthcare system is not a shining jewel among the world. It practices preventative avoidance until you are very ill. That is where the money is.....
