Putin is not going to invade the Ukraine anymore than China is going to try to take back Taiwan. This stuff is all being used as subterfuge because the DS is being defeated by Trump and the Patriots. They are acting in desperation at this point because they are pretty much out of chess moves. We are in the end game.

The economic cost of Russia invading Ukraine is high, but what do they get in in return? It made sense to take Crimea because of it's psychological and strategic benefit. Does invading the main part of Ukraine, beyond Donbass make any sense?

For Putin, the response from the rest of the world is irrelevant. The west is not going to send troops, or drop bombs from the sky. Sanctions are meaningless.
