With television, shows had to be good enough for viewers to watch for "free", where if enough of them watched, advertisers would pay the broadcaster.

Such shows only had to be good enough to be the "Least Objectionable Program".

Since viewers pay directly for streaming services, if the viewers don't feel it's worth it compared to every other option they have, including non-television activities, they're likely to drop it or never subscribe in the first place.
