Did you read what I posted from the article?
"Auberry" made a choice...
...he could have turned off the road into unfenced land. Instead, he ran toward the pickup, darted around it, and made for Travis, who was holding a shotgun. The moment of contact is off camera, but the men are seen grappling for the gun as shots go off.
At the point Arbery grabbed the shotgun, under Georgia law, McMichael was allowed to use deadly force to protect himself.
You won't convince me they were justly tried and convicted. This was about RACE.
Also, my final post on this thread.
Freegards, "buddy."
LOL.
Different situation, buddy.
This guy in this story here? He definitely earned his death, like an idiot.
And yes Aubury was definitely about race. It wouldn’t have made national news if it was a white punk that did what he did.
Garbage result of a fake trial. The state wanted to make an example out of them.
That was a complete travesty of justice.
First thing Arbery did is grab the gun and then punch McMichael in the mouth. I would have shot him too.
Yes, Arbery punched a man in the mouth.
Don't repeat media lies. Arbery ran at the man, grabbed his shotgun and punched him in the face.
There would have been no trial.
Possibly.
I didn’t know that. My main difference I find then, with the two incidents, is that in Oregon the deceased came out to escalate the matter, where in Georgia, the shooters appear to have moved to escalation. Would that be a better comparison?
Anyway, neither scene is anything I’d ever want to be involved in.
I'm not sure "escalation" is what the shooters did. They drove their truck to the exit and waited there for Arbery because it was the only exit from the neighborhood. They weren't going to shoot Arbery but he was clearly a powerful athletic guy and the McMichael's looked like rolly pollys.
Arbery could have simply stayed away from them, or he could have ran past them or he could have stopped in the street and just stood there at a distance from them.
Someone asked me what I would have done if I had been in a black neighborhood and I thought people with guns were chasing me. I said I would have ran away from them. I would have gone over fences, I would have knocked on doors asking to be let in. I would have screamed for help and made such a scene that everyone around would be seeing what was happening.
The one thing I would absolutely not do is run at the man holding a shotgun, grab the barrel and punch him in the face. I would not do that. No rational person would do that.
I would say that it was Arbery who "escalated" the situation into a shooting by initiating the violence.
Anyway, neither scene is anything I’d ever want to be involved in.
I wouldn't want to be involved in it either, but when the troubles are coming into your neighborhood, should people just cower in their houses?
The McMichaels were braver than I would have been, but the Senior McMichael was a retired Cop and I have read the younger McMichael trained members of the coast guard in how to take control of ships they were seizing.
The only mistake they made is not realizing how dangerous it is politically to do anything about a black criminal. Had that guy been white, we would have never heard of this incident.
Thanks for taking the time to explain and give your thoughts.
Thank you for finding them worthy of consideration.
