My High School physics teacher was one. Great guy in every way. His famous saying was “That is a WONDERFUL excuse. And what is an excuse? It is a reason I cannot rely on you”.
Maddening to a high school kid. Once there was a downpour and the principal caught me in the hall and told me to go bring town the US and Texas flags. I was 5 minutes late to class and was dripping wet. I told him it wasn’t my fault, and he could even confirm with the principal. He told me it was a WONDERFUL excuse and he believed me. And THAT is a reason I could not rely on you today! Wrote a tardy slip!
Tolerated ZERO excuses! I mean none...

I got to meet him! In October, 2017 he was at my gate for a connecting flight in Atlanta. He was absolutely delightful. Let me shake his hand and take pix.

It truly was like shaking hands with history.
And I will say Delta did a great job. A nice display at the gate with a plaque for him and a lovely announcement over PA…and everyone nearby stood and applauded.

Our neighborhood HOA had a Fourth of July parade every year I lived there and members of the Tuskegee Airman were grand marshals for many years.

I was so impressed with the movie and the obstacles these men had to overcome.....stunning courage in the face of adversity at that time. Would love to see that type of courage and determination in the black youth of today....but it does take drive, determination, and will to surmount difficulties rather than blaming the world for not doing so.
