Novak Djokovic visa saga latest: Players turn on Australian Open champion over anti-vax stance

The Novak Djokovic saga has a new twist, with fellow players starting to turn on the ‘selfish’ world No.1 amid accusations of favourable treatment over his anti-vaccination stance.

As British great Andy Murray called on Djokovic to come clean over the outstanding questions relating to his botched visa documentation, Portugal’s Joao Sousa spoke out on the double standards that have allowed the defending champion to “find a way around (anti-vaccination) rules”.

“I respect that he fights for what he believes and I can be empathetic with what he is going through in Australia, but it’s a bit selfish from him to arrive here as the only player unvaccinated,” Sousa said.

“It’s tough for us players to accept that.

“Many players – not my case – didn’t want to get vaccinated and were forced to do it to be able to play tournaments. He is finding a way around those rules.”

Sousa joined Wimbledon quarter-finalist Marton Fuscovics in publicly questioning Djokovic’s ‘right’ to play at the Australian Open ahead of next week’s tournament.

Fuscovics, speaking with Hungary’s M4Sport challenged Djokovic’s non-vaccination decision and argued that the health and safety of players was the most important aspect in this debate.

“People’s health is paramount, and there are rules that were outlined months ago, namely that everyone should vaccinate themselves – and Djokovic didn’t,” he said.

“From this point of view, I don’t think he would have the right to be here.”

Australia has long lived under dark history of being founded by criminals and now they have turned their entire country into a modern day “Botany Bay” with the unfounded lockdowns and mandates. I once admired Australia and even thought I would like to live there, not any more.

Your lack of response must mean that it is “Bong Time down under” and that you concede defeat or that you have no logical rebuttal. Sad

You can get into US or Canada with just a normal passport.

Your obsession with the same post repeatedly is very odd.

I don’t know anyone here getting jabs. They’d rather lose their jobs. So who cares more about freedom?

He’s just angry because he had to jab to keep his job, and caved because he didn’t care about his countrymen. By caving, he hurts those who are still standing for freedom.

I would've told the Canadian Stasi that my computer my password is “CanuxSuxDix” with a shit eating grin.

Well, first of all I'm sure I would have been arrested if I had. But I wasn't inclined to do so and still wouldn't.My attitude in a situation like that is that Canada is a sovereign nation and while in Canada I must obey their laws, just as I would expect a Canadian...or a Mexican...to obey ours.

Of course I always have the option of not trying to enter Canada if I wish to ensure that I'll never be required to give their officials the password to my laptop.

No, you are not correct. I don't if know if you even read my post, but we were referring in this thread to Novak Djokovic trying to enter Australia, who is not a citizen of Australia. My post was that foreigners trying to enter the USA or Canada also had the same requirements that they must be double-vaccinated.

For the USA: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/noncitizens-US-air-travel.html

“What You Need to Know
You must be fully vaccinated to travel to the United States by plane if you are a non-U.S. citizen, non-U.S. immigrant (not a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, lawful permanent resident, or traveling to the United States on an immigrant visa). Only limited exceptions apply.
You are required to show a negative COVID-19 test result or documentation of recovery from COVID-19 when you travel to the United States by air.
Wearing a mask over your nose and mouth is required in indoor areas of public transportation (including airplanes) traveling into, within, or out of the United States and indoors in U.S. transportation hubs (including airports).
If you are a non-U.S. citizen, non-U.S. immigrant and not fully vaccinated, you will not be allowed to enter the United States. Only limited exceptions apply to the requirement to show proof of vaccination.”

For Canada: https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/exemptions

Fully vaccinated foreign nationals may be allowed enter Canada for discretionary travel.
Foreign nationals who don't qualify as fully vaccinated will only be allowed to enter in specific circumstances.
Starting January 15, 2022, you may not be able to enter Canada unless you qualify as fully vaccinated. Make plans now to ensure you are fully vaccinated 14 days before arrival.

Even Americans cannot enter Canada if they are unvaccinated.

And inside Canada only vaccinated people, even if they are Canadians, can fly on a plane or even a train. https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/domestic-travel

https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/domestic-travel

https://globalnews.ca/news/8413040/covid-vaccine-requirement-canada-travel/

“Unvaccinated travellers over the age of 12 won't be able to board a plane or passenger train in Canada beginning today, and a negative COVID-19 test will no longer serve as a substitute for most people.

The policy came into effect on Oct. 30, but the federal government allowed a short transition period for unvaccinated travellers who could board as long as they provided a negative molecular COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours before their trip.

The stringent new requirement comes into effect as Canada reacts to the emergence of the new, highly mutated Omicron variant of COVID-19.”

The Australian government isn't that strict with travel inside Australia, although some airlines may require it. But I know of no passenger trains that require this in Australia.

Hello, you might not know the history of the USA and Australia. We have the same founding with criminals and indentured servants. The only reason that Australia was sent the criminals in 1788 to Botany Bay was because of the American Revolution in 1776. Britain was sending its criminals to the Colonies, especially to Maryland and Virginia where the majority of 50,000 convicts were sent. When the war was being won by what would become the USA, Great Britain had to find a new place to put its criminals.

And Georgia was actually founded as a penal colony by: Edward Oglethorpe. “Well, few people know that the State of Georgia, for example, was first founded by James Edward Oglethorpe by using penal prisoners taken largely from debtors’ prison, creating a “Debtor's Colony”. That was quite a good a solution to overcrowding of British debtors. https://quizzclub.com/trivia/which-state-began-as-a-penal-colony/answer/51400/

https://gizmodo.com/britain-sent-thousands-of-its-convicts-to-america-not-1707458418

“The joke about Australia is that it was founded by a bunch of criminals. And from 1788 until 1868, Britain did send roughly 164,000 convicts to the land down under. America's dirty little secret? The same exact thing was happening here. In fact, experts estimate that over 52,000 British prisoners were shipped off to colonial America.

Britain had been shipping convicts to America for decades before they started sending them to Australia. In fact, it was precisely because of America's fight for independence that the Brits had to start sending their criminals to Australia. But from 1718 until 1775, convict transportation to the American colonies flourished. Some estimates claim that almost 10 percent of migrants to America during this time were British convicts.”

So if it hadn't been for the Revolutionary War, it may have been a long time before Australia was populated with many people other than the aboriginals.

Back in the early 1880’s there were many relatives of these criminals that were common in both Australia and the USA. And even today, some Americans and Australians are related to each other through these criminal backgrounds. Australia wasn't really "Australia" until 1901 when all the individual colonies merged under its constitution. Not all the colonies were "convict states". South Australia was a free state and convicts were prohibited from being sent there by Great Britain.
