Stupid article and premise.

People who live in hurricane alley know when a hurricane is coming and will make sure the car is fully charged ahead of time.

People in hurricane alley know the drill.

Agreed. Hurricanes offer enough advance warning, and structures built post 1992 (which by 2035 will be a majority of housing in FL) are hardened enough to allow shelter in place for everyone but immediate coastal residents. Electrics will create some problems - but nothing like this scenario.

And when the power doesn’t come back on and the EV runs out of juice?

Stupid article and premise.

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

What does that make you then since evidenced by your next sentence you obviously didn’t read the article?

Nowhere in the article does it say anything about the initial charging of cars being the problem. Even on a full charge many wouldn’t even get out of Florida.

“People in hurricane alley know the drill.”

Not according to my friend who has been in those evacuations. Many are woefully unprepared even when warned.

Sorry but people Used to prepare and take care of themselves. Now everyone looks for the govt to take care of themselves. But now everyone thinks if they get into a bad situation. It can’t be their fault. Then the blame games begin.

“People in hurricane alley know the drill.”

Many people in hurricane alley don’t even have a gallon of water saved.

Those of us who have lived most of our lives in Hurricane Alley know the drill. But if all we have by then are electric vehicles, then it doesn’t matter what we know if we have no way to evacuate.

Florida is over 400 miles long which exceeds the range of most of today’s EV’s. Even accounting for progress in EV range by 2035, it isn’t ridiculous to think that even fully charged EV’s won’t make it out of the hurricane’s path on one charge

People in hurricane alley know the drill.

And people in the northern climates such as Michigan know the drill. Stay away from EV's!

The estimated mileage on an EV SUV is approx. 280 miles on a full charge, in the winter that drops down to 160 miles.

There is no way in hell that any snowmobile enthusiast or skier is going to drive the 280 miles to northern Michigan for a weekend of skiing or snowmobiling, especially if towing a trailer of two sleds in the wintertime.

Sorry but you EV fanboys aren't thinking thru this crap.........

Floridians today supposedly dont have enough sense to buy food or plywood ahead of time, nor enough sense to fill their tanks with gas. The reason they are fleeing in the first place is that too many didnt have enough sense to take the steps necessary to ensure that homes there were suitable for the environment.

How are they now suddenly going to suddenly develop enough sense to pre-charge a battery?

I’m in FL too. EVs with their shitty range cannot physically go the length of the state in prime conditions... much less during one of our hellish evacs.

WTF are you talking about?

Why are you always running into these EV threads as if you spend your entire non-FR time suckling a Prius?

Are you Chinese or just some silly, insufferable fanboy?

You are either ignorant or not without a bias. The scenario described is logical and realistic. Getting thousands and thousands of people out using EV’s will not work.
