Florida continued its record-shattering week for COVID-19 infections, reporting nearly 76,000 new daily cases on Friday as testing and hospitalizations in the state also continued to increase.
The 75,962 new cases reported by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention once again set a daily record for Florida and brought the state's total to 4,165,962 since the pandemic began in March of 2020.
Thanks mostly to the fast-spreading omicron variant and an increase in testing, Florida has set records all week for daily cases, with 58,013 reported Thursday, 52,995 reported Wednesday, 33,567 on Tuesday and 29,129 on Monday.
Covid hospitalizations in the state increased by 484 on Friday, reaching 4,485, according to the Florida Hospital Association. That total is nowhere near the peak of more than 17,100 hospitalizations during the summer delta wave.
Hospitalizations in the state have increased over 144% in the past week, though more than 25% of adult ICU beds remain available.

The number of cases is meaningless if the disease is minor. Lacking any evidence that disease is serious, this entire article is just anti-Florida propaganda. Note the lack of context: How many cases were reported in other states, including in strict pro-lockdown Blue states?

The Chair of UCSF’s Department of Medicine Robert Wachter said that based on the latest data out from UCSF on Tuesday, he estimates around one in 14 asymptomatic San Franciscans would test positive for COVID-19 right now if everyone was tested.
This comes as COVID-19 cases around the country and in California continue on a steep climb.

I’m in Ohio. Started coughing and a runny nose on Monday. It doesn’t feel like a regular cold, more mild. I did not get tested, I consider it a total was unless your showing severe symptoms. My wife who has respiratory issues also got it. She’s coughing more than me but no fever and it’s all upper airway. There are people in the press that really need to be put on trial when this ends.

Same at the central Florida hospital where I work- except for our ER. That’s swamped with people wanting tests. No amount of explaning that omicron is not the plague seems to be heard.
I’m alarmed by the easy leap from caution to terror made by many. Fear is seductive.

Here’s the deal with our numbers in Florida- half the known universe has been here visiting friends, family, Disney, the beaches, etc.

At Publix today the nurse in front of me in line was buying sparkling grape juice. She told me it was for a New Years Eve celebration at her hospital tonight. That doesn’t sound like something that would happen in an overwhelmed hospital.

We’re getting a huge wave of NY transplants here in Northeast Florida (Jacksonville) these days. They’re buying houses at the top of the market and won’t be happy when it corrects.
