New federal figures show a deeper than previously reported decline in U.S. life expectancy last year, as the Covid-19 pandemic took hold.
Final data released Wednesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that Americans’ life expectancy fell 1.8 years to 77 years in 2020. The drop was 0.3 years more than that of provisional estimates released in July 2021 and remains the biggest life-expectancy decline since at least World War II.
Covid-19 was the nation’s third leading cause of death last year, behind heart disease and cancer, and was the underlying cause in about 351,000 deaths, the new figures show. Increases in mortality from unintentional injuries—which include drug overdoses—as well heart disease, homicide and diabetes also decreased life expectancy.

Well, once Covid-19 is vanquished (or simply quietly disappears), it'll be time to shut down the economy in order to combat heart disease and cancer.
After all: If it saves only one life...
Or, at least, deny emergency medical care and treatment to "heart disease-deniers" and "anti-cancer crazies." Rescind their unemployment benefits. Demand that they submit to monthly colonoscopies. Prohibit cigarettes and alcohol. You know the routine.

Life expectancy was already starting to decline the last couple years of Obama. But that’s Obamacare for you.
Drug overdoses and homicide hit life expectancy FAR harder than the Made in China virus. ODs and homicide victims are in their 20s while 80% of Covid deaths were over 65.
The pursuit of happiness declined exponentially.
Wasn’t all that long ago that medical errors were the third leading cause.
With all the BS that has gone on during this plague, I’m willing to bet it’ll regain it’s previous position once it all gets sorted out.

Since COVID mortalities were mainly among the elderly, and the average age of death from COVID in the UK was 82.4, which was above the average lifespan,23 the virus could not by itself cause the astonishing decline. As we shall see, Hispanic and Black Americans often shoulder the heaviest burden of Dr. Fauci’s public health adventures. In this respect, his COVID-19 countermeasures proved no exception. Between 2018 and 2020, the average Hispanic American lost around 3.9 years in longevity, while the average lifespan of a Black American dropped by 3.25 years.24
This dramatic culling was unique to America. Between 2018 and 2020, the 1.9 year decrease in average life expectancy at birth in the US was roughly 8.5 times the average decrease in 16 comparable countries, all of which were measured in months, not years.
“I naïvely thought the pandemic would not make a big difference in the gap because my thinking was that it’s a global pandemic, so every country is going to take a hit,” said Steven Woolf, Director Emeritus of the Center on Society and Health at Virginia Commonwealth University. “What I didn’t anticipate was how badly the US would handle the pandemic. These are numbers we aren’t at all used to seeing in this research; 0.1 years is something that normally gets attention in the field, so 3.9 years and 3.25 years and even 1.4 years is just horrible,” Woolf continued. “We haven’t had a decrease of that magnitude since World War II.”26

The leading cause of death in the U.S. continues to be abortion, by a wide margin. COVID is now a killer on the order of Planned Parenthood, which accounts for about a third of U.S. abortions.
Drug overdoses are at epidemic levels.
This impacts the young more than the elderly, which hits the life expectancy numbers harder.
Covid mostly impacts the elderly, so there is little impact on life expectancy.
