lol...Madden once said this about RB Leroy Hoard..”hes a guy, that if you need 2 yards, he’ll get ya 2 yards..and if you need 5 yards, he’ll get ya 2 yards”....and remember, “ the road to easy street, usually goes thru the sewer”....heh heh...r.i.p coach, one of a kind....
Yep, nothing like it. I can only imagine what Chuck Noll would have done to a player like Chase Claypool who whined about wanting to play music during practice to make it “more fun”. His a$$ would have been on the first plane out of Pittsburgh.
Wow. Just saw his “All Madden” show the other day. Great show about his life and stuff. He was there live during the show, just sort of sitting there looking at the screen sort of like the rest of us. He sort of grunted a couple of times but that was all. Made me wonder if something was wrong with him. Looked it up, but I couldn’t find anything reporting any real ongoing medical problems. I thought if there were problems they’re keeping it a secret.
I thought maybe he was depressed. Happens.
I loved that guy along with a lot of others.
Poor Enrique.
Hope Madden wasn’t torpedoed by this stupid vax thing.
a dead super jock is as good for America as a dead super Democrat.
Madden made the 70’s Raider a really fun team to follow.
There was the “Immaculate reception” against the Steelers. Then there was the “Immaculate Deception” against, I think, Miami.
Stabler and crew.
Madden came across like an average guy but he was one quarter away from getting his Masters or PhD in Psychology I think. Anyway, smarter than the average bear, but a regular guy who was nice to others and loved to have fun.
Madden was the best commentator I’ve ever seen. None like him before or since.
He was petrified of flying and he had claustrophobia.
You could here it in his voice...as well as hear it in his voice. :)
Great memories.
They weren't the best but they were one of the best in the 70's and a lot of fun. I lived in the SF Bay Area at the time.
After Madden quit and the Raiders went south in more ways than one, we were blessed with a new Bay area favorite - Bill Walsh's champion 49ers - the team of the 80's.
Bill was an amazing coach, maybe one of the best ever, especially coaching QB's which they don't seem to do anymore, but he didn't have nearly the likeable personality that Madden had.
AKA the "Immaculate Deception."
Man, those were fun times.
And now look at the ads they show during football games. Typical ads with no white people in them, that they show during regular TV shows.
When was the last time they did an All Madden Team?
This special was called “All Madden” so I thought it would be another All Madden Team but it wasn’t. Instead, John Madden was just sitting there looking at the screen hardly saying anything. Made me feel like something was wrong.
FS1 will rebroadcast that show tonight at 6:00 and repeat it at 7:30.
I try not to watch any ads now.
They are all terrible.
Car commercials used to be entertaining at one time.
Same with beer and some fast food places.
“I try not to watch any ads now.
They are all terrible.”
Indeed. If you were an alien and just arrived on earth and used commercial advertisement to asses American society, you would conclude:
1. 50+ % of the population was black
2. 30+ % of the population was homosexual
3. The average female would possess an IQ in excess of
150.....The average male, somewhere less than 100.
4. Corporations were tasked with underwriting society rather
than generating a profit
5. The creepier, more bizarre, disgusting ones appearance,
the more socially popular they are.
I still use one of his favorite words: “doink!” Funny.
Maybe they can explain why John was just sitting there the whole time with maybe a few grunts here and there. Kinda weird, even though the show itself was fun and entertaining.
