Fires erupted in Syria's Latakia Port's container storage area following an Israeli missile attack, Syrian state media reported on Tuesday.

The attack, the second in December, damaged facades of a hospital, some residential buildings and shops

"The Israeli "aggression" caused big materialistic damages and assessing its results is still a work in progress", the Syrian defence ministry said in a statement.

Israel has mounted frequent attacks against what it has described as Iranian targets in Syria, where Tehran-backed forces including Lebanon's Hezbollah have deployed over the last decade to support President Bashar al-Assad in Syria's war.

Live footage aired by the Syrian State TV showed flames and smoke in the containers area.

"Fire fighters are trying to put the fires off while ambulances arrived at the scene," the state TV reporter said.

Syria doesn’t deserve to have a port.

Messy situation here.

Latakia is the main Russian base in Latakia. Iran and the Russians are both supporting Assad. Also in that camp are both Hezbollah and the large Syrian Christian community.

Israel along with us and the Saudis have ended up supporting the Muslim Brotherhood fundamentalists.

We hate Iran. I get that. But Iran supports Assad who’s a secular SOB. In that part of the world, a secular Arab Strongman is about the best you can get. Assad protects the Christians in Syria. If Assad goes, it’s an open season on the Christians in Syria.

Funny how Israel never seems to attack ISIS and the wahabbist rebels... I mean never. They only attack people fighting the rebels.

**God Bless the Mossad.**

Back in 1998, my friend who was career CIA, in frustration, said much of the CIA had been co-opted by Mossad.

That is not in US interests.

I am not a fan of the Mossad and Israeli aggression. Latakia is home to many of Syria’s Christians..or are they the wrong kinds of Christians?

Latakia is also the port where most food imports enter Syria.
Syria was a wheat export country before the US began stealing their wheat, burning their fields, and introducing soft wheat seed infected with 40% nematodes.

Stealing oil, starving the populace via sanctions, and eco terrorism, training terrorists in Al Tanf. The US should have no presence in Syria, and to applaud Israel’s continued bombings is no virtue.

Latakia is also a permanent port of the Russian Navy, along with the port of Tartus.

“also a permanent port of the Russian Navy”

Dicey to attack there, then. Assuming it wasn’t someone smoking near the fuel storage.

Indeed. One of the problems in the Middle East is the alliances make no sense.

Our and Israel’s natural ally is Iran. We have ended up fighting on their side in Iraq and Afghanistan and should be with them in Syria. But we supported the Shah and are thus forced to partner up with Saudi Arabia. The country that is the most responsible for 9/11.

Wait for the ruling Mullahs to die (20 years from now) and they’ll forget that we’ve supported the Shah back in ‘79. That’s only if theocracy still survives in the country by then. I predict the government getting overthrown by a charismatic general (Gaddafi) or a popular uprising.
