The White House said on Friday that it could make double monthly child tax credit payments in February, if Democrats' spending plan to extend them doesn't pass Congress before year-end. "We've talked to Treasury and others about doing double payments in February. The president sees this as a priority as soon as Congress returns," White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said. The U.S. Treasury paid the last monthly child tax credit payment, $16 billion in total, on Wednesday.

A lame attempt at vote and poll buying?
Don’t worry. If we don’t get statutory authorization, we’ll do it anyway.
Good, if that happens it could pay for the increased taxes for the 2021 1040.
American families are exempted from this giveaway.
More women enter the labor market so the state can raise and indoctrinate their kids.
Is this how people are able to not work and also not starve? I’m wondering how all those millions who have dropped out of the labor market are doing it.
“I’m wondering how all those millions who have dropped out of the labor market are doing it.”
Me too. Do the recipients eventually have to pay back the “double” part? I’ve not heard of a “child tax credit payment”. Must mean they’re sending out checks that are associated with the recipients’ tax situation.
The homeless people I have talked to around here are often getting by on rather impressive social security payments...even though the oldest one I spoke with was in her mid 40s.
Apparently getting disability is very easy, as none of them looked or acted disabled.
The political advantages of this might be offset by increasing inflation.
Probably like the earned income credit, where some on the lowest tiers get more money back than they were taxed in the first place. Just a disguised welfare check.
Evictions being suspended, plus bonus unemployment exceeding people’s regular wages, plus food stamps and Medicare, plus this, equals no need to work.
The child payment is the 1040 child tax credit split into months and sent out in advance vs all at once at filing.
They are assuming some families will get the child tax credit and paying it out in advance by month. My DIL claimed the child tax credit last year (separated from my son). I’m betting she received it IN ADVANCE this year - although the kids have resided with my son in a different state the entire year. So as I understand it, she’ll have to PAY IT BACK at tax time! Started in July, so half of $6,600 - or $3300 she’ll have to PAY BACK.
That is unless she files a false tax return and claims the kids resided with her. Their attendance in school 1,000 miles away the entire calendar year will make that a tough position to take when my son disputes it.
Why bother with a Congress at all at this point?
If they’re homeless it is a pretty good bet that they are disabled and/or addicted.
The backlash in April is going to be amazing. “Oh, that $3000 you always used to balance to tax liability come 4/15? Yeah, we already gave it to you and you spent it. You owe IRS $3000 you don’t have.”
I’ve taken to asking people in my office if they received their welfare check this month....
can’t illegals get the tax credits? you just need a TIN right?
Not sure about tax credits but renting the out for a count will work for them.
My lovely wife asks me every time she and I go to Walmart/Sam’s how these folks afford to drive SUV’s and spend 400-500 at WMT. All have cell phones, yet we live in the welfare capitol of the US.
