They should all just quit. Kind of hard to have a “team” with only one person.....
Unfortunately, if they are there on a sports scholarship, they might not be able to stay at the university at all if they quit the team.
That's a tough call; stay on the team and lose, but get a college education, or quit the team and get booted from the school.
