The Senate voted Wednesday to repeal a President Biden-backed federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate for private businesses. The final vote was 52-48. Moderate Democratic Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Jon Tester of Montana joined Republicans to vote in favor of the repeal.
Republicans brought the repeal to the Senate floor under the "Congressional Review Act," which allows Congress to review presidential executive orders. Sen. Mike Braun, R-Ind., who sponsored the resolution, said the mandate was an example of the "heavy hand of government" hurting businesses.
So congress has to vote to prohibit the president from doing what he’s not Constitutionally permitted to do in the first place.
Ditch is driving this to deflect from his cave on the Broke Biden Budget.
Apparently so.
Makes perfect sense, doesn’t it?
That makes sense. Since the mandates are not law, voting to 'repeal' them and treating them as if they were is ridiculous and nothing more than show, IMO.
More than 500 WNY healthcare workers terminated for being unvaccinated
“The Democrat-controlled House is not expected to take up the measure and President Biden would likely veto the bill if it cleared Congress.”
Proposing bills for the Dems to reject and/or Foe to veto is important for the mid-term election. It forces them to show their true colors. The courts are making short work of this nutso, illegal, unconstitutional mandate anyway. Problem is, Nanshy won’t allow it out on the floor, so it’ll die in committee, and that doesn’t serve at all.
One thing the Senate vote did show, and that’s that Manchin and Sinema will do the right thing at least sometimes. The hopes for killing Break Balls Badder are ascendant.
It’s even worse than that... then the President would have to sign the bill in agreement that he acted unconstitutionally. A complete farce.
Tens of thousands of medical and civilian workers are going to be terminated before this is over, if it ever is. We’re going to be in deep shit, as a Nation.
good point....didn’t think of that. then the doddering fool pretending to be potus can/will veto it. then the useless republicans can claim they tried, then shrug and move on to do whatever it is they do....
Damn.
The legislature has to unlegislate what the executive has unlawfully legislated while, meanwhile, the judicial is reading the Constitution upside-down? And the criminal justice system is overlooking Hunter while 'trying' to determine whether Juicie faked a hate crime?
God help us!!!!!
Not exactly. It still has to go to the SCOTUS and even then the President can overturn their finding. This is due to the 28th Amendment that President Biden unilaterally ratified last year.
AMENDMENT XXVIII - Originally proposed Jan. 25, 2009. Ratified Jan. 26, 2021.
Section 1. Presidential decrees, dictates and mandates shall be overruled by majority vote by both chambers of the Legislature, and a ruling from the Supreme Court.
Section 2. The President shall have power to overrule rulings from Section 1 on grounds of social equity or racial justice.
From my standpoint, it is the Senate Republicans saying see what we did. Nothing will happen. It is all grandstanding so they can go home and tell they constituents that they tried. Why don’t they vote on the 1/6 prisoners being held in horrible conditions. If this was the other way around, the Democrats would be screaming, but not the spineless Republicans. So tired of the spineless GOP.
Think about this for one minute. 48 members of Congress voted yes to tyranny. 48 members of Congress voted yes to strip your individual rights away from you. Scary scary times.
