I don’t know about permanently, but you’re more right than wrong. China makes a huge percentage of our consumer goods. Replacing all that would send inflation through the roof, as you noted.
As a side note, I took a stroll through Lowe’s the other day. Everything except the lumber seemed to be made in China. The nails, the buckets, the artificial Christmas trees...China, China, China.
