The parents charged in connection with this week's deadly shooting at Oxford High School in Michigan did not turn themselves in for their scheduled arraignment Friday afternoon and continue to be at large, according to law enforcement officials.

The Marshals Service announced a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to their arrests.

Give it time. They could well become heroes. It is not close to the point here of cheering them on like a fleeing white Bronco, but it could get close to it.
When do they go for the photo op in Florida? / sarc

Would it not be something if we had as much outrage here on FR over spilled high school kids’ (redacted) all over the floor, as there was a few days ago over smash and grab rampages in San Francisco.

Back as a teenager, having my parents called into school was about the worst thing that could happen to me. My life would be a living hell for weeks.

That was before the “my kids can do no wrong” style of parenting.

I hold the parents 100% responsible.

Just one question that bothers me - if the 15 year old is being tried as an adult, how can the parents be held responsible? I don’t disagree that parents being held responsible for what their children do is appropriate- but then I’d think he should be tried as a juvenile.

Obviously, I’m not a lawyer, otherwise I’d already know how ridiculous my thought is.

It’s not ridiculous. Moral and legal responsibility may not be the same. I guess it depends on Michigan law.

The school wanted the kid to go home after the parent/school conference but the parents were adamant that he stay.

“Funny, the day of the shooting the parents were called to the school and downplayed his behavior and said he should go back to class.”

Been there had that responsibility in my school. Handled kids with guns in school situations. Parents in such a situation don’t make the rules when it comes to the safety of 1500 kids. The principal, assistant principal or school counselor who ever made the decision for him to return to class should have had him escorted off campus with parents if they could not find a gun. If they found a gun, call law enforcement. What about the school’s resource officer.

With the responsibility of the safety of students always error on the side of caution. School admin and system gonna get sued big time.

Agree. Do not understand why the kid’s backpack and locker were not searched.
