The attorney for James and Jennnifer Crumbley, the parents of the accused Oxford High School shooting suspect, says they are turning themselves in to face involuntary manslaughter charges.
Attorney Shannon Smith late Friday afternoon indicated the Crumbleys were returning to face charges, according to the Detroit News.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Department earlier Friday issued an advisory for people to be-on-the-lookout for the Crumbleys because they had not turned themselves into police as their attorney supposedly had promised.
According to news reports, the teacher took a photo of the drawing before he defaced it and the parents saw that. Again, according to reports. These are early days, and we all know how news reports often get things wrong. It does stand to reason, though, that the parents either saw the photo or were at least told about the original words and drawings. After all, that was the reason for calling them in for a meeting.
Later, more local reports said they “walked into a bank” to withdraw the money. Who knows? News reports are often confused in the early days of a case like this.
“Never, I repeat, never talk to authorities without legal representation”
If I were super wealthy I would fund a massive ad campaign to tell people just that.
I don’t know how much they talked to LE, but Mom had already cooked their goose on social media. She posted a picture of the handgun on Saturday captioned “Mom & son day testing out his new Xmas present”. Kinda does away with any claim Dad bought the gun for himself and the kid stole it.
If Freepers posting here that purchasing the handgun for a 15-year-old juvenile constituted a “straw purchase” then that was monumentally stupid.
It is not against the law to purchase a gun for a minor child, if it is kept in the household.
All of this Media directed attention on the gun is silly. There were multiple guns in the household.
He could, almost certainly, have taken another.
Much is unknown at this time.
Why were all the other guns taken from them? Those guns were not used in any crime.
It violates the Fourth Amendment to take guns from people other than those who committed the crime.
Well, I found this:
“Michigan prohibits issuance of a handgun purchase license to any person under age 18. If the handgun is to be purchased from a federally licensed dealer, the applicant must be age 21 or older.”
Anyone know if this is accurate?
True, there were multiple guns in the household. They were described as “rifles” in news reports. Whether those reports were accurate is another question. If they were indeed rifles, the kid would have had a tough time sneaking one into school in his backpack, no?
I don’t know why the rifles were seized, or anything about the legality of that seizure. I imagine others here who are more knowledgeable will chime in.
