Do you really think Pelosi would give up the chance to be President if she could, she will not go gently into that good night.
I think she would give it up if, in her mind, it secures the White House for a Democrat incumbent in 2024.
If Pelosi did become president, that would be an automatic win for Republicans in 2024 (and her arch-nemesis President Trump) because she won't be running after that.
By stepping aside, Democrats get to choose the person who will run against President Trump in 2024 as the incumbent. Otherwise, it will be Harris or Biden.
