This would be different if the guy had barged into their house, or waving a weapon. All they had to do was call the Sheriff and ask for someone to come out. It’s not rocket science.
I agree with you. This guy was no innocent “jogger”, and I understand going out to detain him. However, this got out of hand and did not meet requirements for self defense.
