One could argue self defense, but it doesn’t look good.

They tried. But in Georgia, as in I think every other state, if you initiate the incident and things go wrong and you kill someone then you can't claim self defense. The McMichael's started it so they're responsible for anything that happened.

I think in Wisconsin, as long as you retreat you can instigate the event and still claim self defense. The argument being, by retreating you have now made an attempt to deescalate and get away from the situation and the person chasing has now become the aggressor.
