What point(s) made you change your mind? I read quite a bit about it and it seemed like they were chasing the man they thought was a burglar. I am not sure how they get from chasing him to shooting him in self defense!
The black guy grabbed the barrel of the shotgun.
“I am not sure how they get from chasing him to shooting him in self defense!”
After they stopped him, Arbery attacked one of them and tried to take his gun, which is where the self defense claim comes in. Of course, they were pointing their guns at Arbery, which may have given Arbery the right to defend himself from them. So there are competing claims there, and it probably all comes down to whether they had justification for the “citizen’s arrest”.
He tried to take the gun away from them
What made me change my mind?
+++++++++
The testimony about the neighborhood and the way the increased burglaries and thefts had affected everyone. The fact that they were wary about even letting their children play outside. That the neighbors had gotten to the point they had formed a neighborhood watch. The fact that the deceased had been seen several times in the houses under construction. That he had been known to pretend to be a “jogger” in order to explain he presence in other locations and even the store owners knew he was a thief. The fact that he grabbed for the gun and initiated the final confrontation was what pushed me to change my mind from “guilty” to “not guilty”.
