God bless you. I hope you've enjoyed your retirement. I certainly have. I can't even imagine having to work in any prison here at this point in time. I just heard today that they're closing 6 prisons here in NY State in March...one of them is a maxi-maxi, and no one from the Governor's office has bothered to meet with any of the Unions, or the politicians who run the various counties involved. I don't know what's going to happen to the staff at those prisons. Some folks will probably end up being sent way across the State, with no chance of getting back home for years, and plenty of them will have already been away from home for a while, waiting for an opening at a prison closer to their home. People will be bumped out of their positions for someone who is coming in with more seniority. I'm assuming people will be demoted as well, and new employees laid off. Sometimes it's good to be old, and out of the job market.
There was a series of closures in Michigan during the 2010’s that had me sweating a bit. But fortunately I had a decent amount of seniority by then. Things were getting weird even before I left (I’ve been out about 2 and a half years now). Glad I’m out.
