Thanksgiving is my very favorite holiday of the year. The family, the food, & no ‘present pressure’ although we’ve done a lot to get rid of the present problem - only the little kids get them.
We had a full Thanksgiving last year (an 80 person wedding & normal Christmas, too - we did not pause our lives for COVID) and will have the same this year, with one exception. Yesterday, around 5 pm, we lost an elderly family member. He was 94, just missed 95 by a few days. Korean War vet, a grand old gentleman. His last couple of months have been tough on him and family - he went on hospice a week ago, so this was not unexpected. He was at Thanksgiving last year in his PJ bottoms and slippers .... enjoyed his Libby’s pumpkin pie. The day will be bittersweet without him, but he’s in a much better place.
My brother is going to try to smoke a 12 lb turkey breast - to deep fry it will cost $35-40 just for the oil! He smoked a smaller breast yesterday that we all ‘taste-tested’ and it was delicious. I have a 21 pounder that I’ll roast in a more traditional way so there will be plenty of turkey for everyone .... hope I can get it in the roaster pan!
Happy Thanksgiving to all .... life IS good, family is great, FR is awesome and I am grateful.
