The rub is that the Senate is currently tied 50-50. The Republicans have it within their power to stymie any VP appointment—and they should. At the very least until after new Senators are seated after next year’s elections.

No VP means no tie breaker in the Senate for the next year. We’ve lived successfully as a nation without a VP many times. If Brandon should shuffle off this mortal coil, then we’d have Nancy who might be a nickel’s worth more with it than Joe.
