The NAPA warehouse down the street is fully automated. Go to the front desk, tell the person the make, model and year of your car, then the part you need. He types it in the computer and a robot retrieves the part from its appropriate place. The part is dropped on a conveyor and makes its way to the front desk.
There are about 3 or 4 employees walking around with iPads, inspecting machinery and sometimes repairing an item or two. The entire operation is probably run by five people. They likely are paid much better than someone who simply pulls and packs.
