UNITED NATIONS — Mexico’s president warned Tuesday that the world is sliding from “civilization to barbarity” and called for the thousand richest people, the thousand largest private corporations and the 20 major economies to improve life for the 750 million people now existing on less than $2 dollars a day.
Andrés Manuel López Obrador told the U.N. Security Council that this proposal could generate around $1 billion annually, which should go directly to the world’s poorest people “without any intermediaries, through a card or personalized electronic wallet.”
He said the proposal can be financed with money from three sources: an annual voluntary contribution of 4% of the income of the world’s 1,000 richest people, a similar 4% contribution from the 1,000 largest private corporations according to their market value, and 0.2% of the GDP of nations in the Group of 20 largest global economies.
López Obrador accused the United Nations, with U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres listening, of failing to help those at the bottom of economic ladder, saying: “Nothing really substantial has been done to benefit the poor in the history of this organization.”
“But it is never too late to ensure that justice is done,” he said.

How about getting the thousand richest drug cartel members to cough up the dough? They have *lots* of moolah.
How about.... NO. Your people wouldn’t be so poor if you weren’t so corrupt.
And that is only what Forbes and dig up in public records.
I would imagine he is far richer than I am - should I expect a check?
Very true - Mexico would be a very vibrant and wealthy nation but for all of corruption. Excellent location, resources, etc.
This dude never heard of charity or philanthropy.
I am a low end landlord. For the most part the people I rent to are low income and low intelligence. Some of them are nice people. Some of them are hard workers.
Let’s say you have a problem with all the elements necessary for a solution and a person with a 100 IQ solves it in, say, an hour. A person with a 130 IQ looks at the problem and jumps to the right solution immediately. A person of low intelligence will never get to the right answer. These people are poor because they have low intelligence and consistently make poor decisions. For an example, I’d served a three day notice on a renter for the third time. Each time he’d scrapped together the money and paid me eventually. I go to his house to collect and he has me follow him to the store so he can turn in his Lotto tickets. These were tickets you pay $20 for. He had a fist full of them. He “won” $89. He paid $300. But that’s not all. He had a DUI, but he drove to the store and I could not keep up with him at the speed limit. I arrived at the store several minutes after he did. When his wife got sent to prison for theft, actually, for violating the parole, he simply stopped paying the rent. It costs around eight hundred to fifteen hundred dollars to evict someone. I went to his house and told him if he was out by Friday and the place was empty, I’d give him five hundred dollars. (Best deal I ever made.) But the point is, he didn’t do just one stupid thing, but stupid thing after stupid thing. You can give someone like that all the money in the world and they’ll either overdose on drugs or end up dead broke within a year.
You can give all the money of all the rich people to the poor and it will not substantively change their position in the world. My mother said, “People are poor because they make poor choices.”
Well said.
This list does NOT include the Cartels. They have billions they stole from everyone esp the USA. Add to that the billions we have paid to take care of the addicts and the theft the addicts did to support their habits.
Yep, $1.33 per year, or about four tenths of one cent per day. That’s a real game-changer, all right.
Nope—If rich give all to help poor—it would do no good. Make ya feel good for a day only. Welfare aint the answer. Charity begins at home—Think. The Pharaohs of Egypt did give back —SOME— to the people only so they could make points with the Gods. Same with Victorians and others. But today few rich people even believe God exists.

I wouldn’t cry if it happened to Soros and Gates. It could be considered therapy for their god complex.
