For more than a century, school districts preferred textbooks that taught students about “happy slaves” and framed the Civil War as a disagreement over taxes.

At 59 years old and having attended public school my entire life, the above statement is a flat-out LIE.

We were taught about slavery, the underground railroad, Booker T. Washington, the abolitionists and more. NONE of that would've been taught if there were "happy slaves."
