Go spend some time reading the Taiwan history from WWII onwards.
Do not presume these are some freedom loving people yearning for democracy this and that.
That’s not what goes on there. The 1949 event of Chiang Kai Shek losing a civil war on mainland China and fleeing to Taiwan. Defined the government of Taiwan for decades upon decades, meaning his troops and their children were plugged into govt positions and have dominated Taiwan for 40ish years. Only in the very recent past has there been any dilution of influence of the families that fled in 1949.
Taiwan had a native population at that time. It was erased by the people who arrived to take over everything.
Hate to say this, but they deserve very little support.
