There is a very good reason the commies obsess over universal background checks – to make it known that they have lists. They aren’t stupid enough to think that actual criminals are going to be caught by those checks, they buy guns illegally anyway.

The point in all of this is deterrence. Make them think twice about grabbing guns because the cost will be way too high.

That’s the whole point of the 2nd Amendment - to deter. Either to deter foreign invaders, or to deter the would-be tyrants among us. So far, it has worked (though we did need to have the militia add its weight and firepower to the regular Army in the War of 1812 to make sure that the Limeys and other foreigners took us seriously).
