HCQ is purported to be useful in the early stage of infection while IVM is said to be useful at any stage.
HCQ is somewhat similar to the old British gin and tonic that was used in India to fend of bouts of malaria, a serious condition...
Quinine comes from tree bark, the cinchona tree... and is what is in tonic water.
Also used by us Vietnam vets for malaria prevention. One tablet every day while in country. As for me, No malaria - No side effects.

Pulled this out of an herb book(Scientific Validation of Herbal Medicine by Daniel Mowrey) in the middle 90s. It actually works, if at the onset of any respiratory infection, you throw half a teaspoon into a cup of boiling water and drink it.

I did the math last year and you would need to drink 6.03 liters of Tonic Water (at 83mg per liter; 33.8 oz) to equal one 500mg dose tablet of Quinine. And TW is sweetened (same calories as pop, 124 per 12 ounces) so that is a TON of calories (2100 for those 6 liters).
