It prolonged the crisis and ultimately allowed for the mutated strains which are able to get past the vaccinated, but are being fought off by the naturally immune.
He rightly stated that he saved many of millions of lives with the vaccine. The Delta strain started in India before that country was vaccinated. The Spanish Flu mutated three times and lasted three years when there was no vaccine. We are still only in the second year of covid so you can't say it has been prolonged.
