Interesting! You calculated that if someone is hospitalized, they appear to have similar odds of surviving whether they are vaccinated or not.

But the advantage of the vaccine is to avoid hospitalization, which is what your numbers indicate. 29,665 unvaxxed hospitalizations vs. 1414 vaxxed hospitalizations.

But you’re right— totals are skewed to before vaccines were in wide use.

I would kindly suggest finding recent data for your state. How many are in the hospital (or died) this week or month, and how many are vaccinated vs. unvaccinated. I guarantee you won’t find an even split of 50:50 vaccinated:unvaccinated in deaths or serious illness. It will likely be closer 82:18 vaccinated:unvaccinated. Which would be a 455% improvement, not 0.7%.

I appreciate you getting back and doing some of the research on your own. Hopefully you can see the point I’m trying to make.

That data is not available, I looked. The closest thing I could find that would allow me to compare apples to apples is cases vs. hospitalizations vs. deaths.

What I do have is a baseline now and I will be charting these percentages as they update. That will give a pretty good idea of the trend.

It is important to keep in mind, as I said earlier, their definition of “unvaccinated” includes those who have not received the shot, those who only received 1 shot, and those who received the second shot within the past 2 weeks. That will skew the results as well.

And actually, to your first point, that is not accurate.

For the vaccinated breakthrough cases, I calculated what percentage of the breakthrough cases were hospitalized and what percentage of the breakthrough cases died.

And the same for “unvaccinated” cases

Looking at whole numbers does not give an accurate picture, as I said, because the data is skewed. Half of the months included in these numbers few vaccinated. Percentages is what matters. Percentage wise, there is very little difference between risk of hospitalizations and deaths between the two groups.
