I agree. Trump’s presence at the funeral would, unfortunately, put the focus on him and not where it should be. Perhaps the best thing Trump could do is send a letter of condolence, and then make a private visit afterwards.

In this case, Trump’s presence would be “where it should be” since the parents have invited him. If he showed up without an invitation, it would be beyond tacky. (It’s what Biden would do.)
