Reps. Seth Moulton (D-MA) and Peter Meijer (R-MI) made a secret visit to Kabul, Afghanistan, on Tuesday where they learned that evacuations cannot be completed by President Joe Biden’s August 31 deadline, according to commanders in charge of the situation.
In a joint statement, Moulton and Meijer said their surprise mission was to “conduct oversight on the mission to evacuate Americans and our allies,” arguing that Members of Congress “have a duty to provide oversight on the executive branch.” The two representatives were also clear that they ensured their visit would not take away seats from those in need:
As Members of Congress, we have a duty to provide oversight on the executive branch. There is no place in the world right now where oversight matters more. We conducted this visit in secret, speaking about it only after our departure, to minimize the risk and disruption to the people on the ground, and because we were there to gather information, not to grandstand. We left on a plane with empty seats, seated in crew-only seats to ensure that nobody who needed a seat would lose one because of our presence.
Washington should be ashamed of the position we put our service members in, but they represent the best in America. These men and women have been run ragged and are still running strong. Their empathy and dedication to duty are truly inspiring. The acts of heroism and selflessness we witnessed at HKIA make America proud.

empty because of staging. There were previously planes leaving with unused capacity. Issue now is access to the airport. And desperate people with no connection to the USA flooding the area around the airport.

The numbers of 52,000 evacuated sounds phony. How did they get into the airport? I am suspecting that to build up the numbers for public consumption, this administration is just opening the gates and letting Afghans who were blocking the airport and who had no association with the US effort there in to fly out, just so they could add numbers to the evacuation count
Lets take it a step further. I read were Afgan refugees go, the raping and killing of women escalated big time, besides other crimes. You saw the pictures. Lots of men, fighting age. Could it be the Biden Administration is setting up our slaughter?
My next question is where is my Congressman? Why isn’t he Speaking out?
We don’t need to get EVERYONE out. We just need to get every American out.
Then try to get the locals out who helped us. But I agree with Steve Cortez, i. e., that they should stay and fight to save their country from the bad guys.

Also true. Naomi Wolf has been saying this for at least a couple of months. This “regime” didn’t have a clue how much hesitancy there would be when it comes to having foreign, untested serum injected into their bodies. But Biden was still obligated to hold up his end of the deal.
Result: Serum forced on to Americans and anyone else Biden can catch in his snare.

Define ‘everyone’. If he means we won’t have all U.S. citizens out by September 11 or August 31 then that’s a problem. If he means every Afghan who wants to come to the U.S. then it isn’t. Not by my way of thinking.
I wonder if the 52,000 figure includes every person that has left the country by any means, not taking a flight. Plenty of folks I would think many traveling across borders to neighboring countries by car.

I read that in fact some planes did leave empty during the beginning of the evacuation.
Leaving empty and leaving with vacant seats are two different things.
And remember the C17 is a cargo plane that is how they got 800 to 900 people on board.
