You'd be amazed.
I live in a rural area just outside a midsize, Midwestern metro area. When the economy takes a dive our roads are full of cats and dogs that the urbanites figure would do a lot better in the country than where they are.
My wife and a couple of neighbors have taken in a few cats, but most of them seem to just disappear after a few weeks.
A few of these discarded cats and dogs might find a home after they are dumped by their owners, but most of them wind up as dinner for the coyotes.

The worst are college towns where graduating seniors basically dump their pets in a field before leaving.

Yeah. The figure if the can’t feed ‘em the will thrive in the Disney version of nature.

Can’t be too harsh on the (actually I can) remember in the bad old days in the old country Hansel & Gretel were left in the woods to their own devices.
