Historians, however much they’d like to, won’t be able to deny that President Biden bears full responsibility for America’s humiliating retreat from Afghanistan, and our neglect of the tens of thousands who aided us and now face torture and death from the Taliban.
“The drawdown is proceeding in a secure and orderly way,” Biden assured Americans on July 8. A Taliban takeover of Afghanistan “is not inevitable,” he said, pledging to “continue to provide civilian and humanitarian assistance, including speaking out for the rights of women and girls.”
Asked if there were parallels with the American abandonment of Saigon, he saw “zero.” “The Taliban is not the South — the North Vietnamese army,” he said. “There’s going to be no circumstance where you see people lifted off the roof of an embassy in the — of the United States from Afghanistan.”

If Barone believes this he’s a fool. Afghanistan would have gone over to the Taliban no matter who won last November. Even if there were similarities between Afghanistan and Taiwan then the flack Biden has been taking on one would make him dig in on the other.
Our allies see 3+ more years of U.S. weakness which leaves them vulnerable. They have to be making their own plans to defend themselves and/or find other countries to ally with. The U.S’s reputation has been damaged beyond repair by the Biden administration and those countries know its only going to get worse..
Do we want the Chinese to get mired in that quagmire or not?

Trump would have done a better job getting US citizens out first.
He would. Biden made the mistake of thinking the Afghan government had a chance to survive. Trump said the other day that he would have withdrawn every American, taken back all the weapons we gave to the Afghan army, and leveled the bases before completing the withdrawal of troops on May 11. That would have prevented all the problems going on now...but would also have made taking the country easier for the Taliban. If that was even possible, given the Afghan collapse.
Trump likly would have went to the hand over.

It would have been a nice event. Afghans getting there country back. Trump would have ushered in a new Era. He likely would have rode into the ceremony on a white horse. The world would have seen a peaceful transfer of power in Afghanistan.
