Where would the US have been if the French hadn’t beat the British at sea during the Revolutionary War. The French have lately gotten a bad rep because they collapsed after the Germans overran the Maginot Line, but really they’re underrated when it comes down to it, and that with the Maginot Line was just appallingly bad contingency planning.
France was the first Nation to declare war on NAZI Germany, after they invaded Poland. Germany exploited the weaknesses in France’s war strategy with the blitzkrieg and giving their soldiers meth.
We wouldn’t be a Nation without France. The French wisely told us to stay away from Iraq. They basically said “ let sleeping dogs sleep.” But retard Bush I and II supposedly knew better.
The Maginot Line was defended by poorly prepared reserve units, because the French did not think the Germans would attack there. So the troops who broke and ran there were basically cooks and clerks. IDK know why the stigma continues to stick. I don’t care much for the French government, or arrogant Parisians, but the people are durable.
“...they collapsed after the Germans overran the Maginot Line,”
The issue I hold against the French is they can’t seem to keep a stable Republic. I think they are on their 5th now. And the Terror of the Robespierre years was downright horrible and in my opinion was the first communist Republic.
The Foreign Legion is tough and capable, the French nationals not so much
