I have a lot of pity for school aged kids and their parents these days.
I am a big-time fan of homeschooling and many of my relatives have very successfully home schooled their children. However it is not for everyone.
1. Homes where both parents work just don’t have the time to do a good job.
2. Many parents are poorly educated and don’t have the ability to home school.
3. Many homes are single parent homes, dysfunctional and to try homeschooling would be a disaster. The kids are usually disrespectful and disobedient. These same ones often drop out of public schools and hang out with anti-social gangs.
Did you know they are already doing something like that?
(Hillsdale) Children friends attend one near Toledo, OH.
In SoCal too....went smooth.
Moved to OK...and it went smooth also.
Both are nice productive citizens....
We did good!
My husband was teaching learning disabled students in the inner city. He himself had some difficulties he had overcome. He was raising reading levels an average of 3 years during 1/2 year of classes. I remember one evaluation test in which the student had filled every blank in the sentences with the letter M. This was high school, not elementary or junior high.
Yes, you are right. Some children will need to be institutionalized for their schooling.
We need orphanages, too, but no one argues it is the best way to rear a child.
in the 50’s and 60’s I had occasion to visit several church run orphanages and I was very favorably impressed.
