“The mothers were desperate, they were getting beaten by the Taliban. They shouted, ‘Save my baby!’ and threw the babies at us. Some of the babies fell on the barbed wire,” a Parachute Regiment officer told the UK’s Independent.
“It was awful what happened. By the end of the night there wasn’t one man among us who was not crying,” he added quietly.

Arguments can be made about the US policy to pull out - there is a strong feeling that US involvement couldn't continue ad infinitum. But the manner of the withdrawal has been hapless, with a mass of miscalculation, warnings ignored, and - critically - a wild over-estimation of the capability of the American-trained Afghan armed forces.
The policy may have been framed by Donald Trump when he was president, but Joe Biden owns this unfolding chaos.

Don’t we have some kind of leader. Straight out of 8th grade mentality. Unheard in world history, that the greatest, strongest nation that ever existed has that decrepit, senile, befuddled, evil old man as president and everyone knows that and everyone looks around and no one can think to send the idiot packing.
And I can’t fault Americans because he was not elected. I noticed Emmett Tyrell, the former fearless conservative spokesman, allowed that he was this morning. No wonder the country is falling. Most of our leaders are too gutless to stand up and stand firm.
