Biden administration scrambled as its orderly withdrawal from Afghanistan unraveled

By the middle of the week, as cities across Afghanistan were falling like dominoes to the Taliban and U.S. diplomats appeared increasingly at risk, President Biden’s plan for an orderly end to the United States’ longest war was quickly falling apart.

On Wednesday evening, Biden convened his top advisers to assess the ominous turn of events. One by one, in the cramped Situation Room in the White House basement, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Secretary of State Antony Blinken outlined the administration’s options for ensuring the security of U.S. personnel. Biden asked them to return with recommendations.

When the aides reconvened early the next morning, things had gotten worse. The Taliban was taking control of more and more of Afghanistan’s 34 provincial capitals, most of them seized without a major fight, and the militants were bearing down on Kabul, the national capital. After being briefed by Sullivan and Austin, Biden gave the order to activate a plan deploying troops to secure the Kabul airport and create an evacuation route for Americans on the ground.

Blinken called Kabul, where the U.S. Embassy’s top diplomat was already presiding over packing and document destruction, and told him most embassy personnel would move to the airport. At U.S. Central Command in Tampa, military leaders ordered intensified airstrikes on militants driving toward Kabul, hoping to slow their advance as U.S. personnel and their allies scrambled to get out.

In a few weeks, every woman in Afghanistan will be forced to wear this. They will not be allowed to go to school. That’s what Taliban taking over means for women. That’s what the US withdrawal will do to women. ~ Ghanem Nuseibeh

“On Wednesday evening, Biden convened his top advisers to assess the ominous turn of events”

Their conclusion and strategy moving forward “blame Trump”. I kid you not.

I’ll bet Austin, Gen. Milley and the rest of those stooges are pissed that their diversity, inclusion, equity and white supremacy seminars are being interfered with.

Look—this is not a time for blaming our wonderful leaders.

At this very moment they are huddled together in meetings trying to make the most important decisions of their lives—

Do they save the rainbow flags at the Kabul embassy or do they burn them?

;-)

Yes, but the important thing is where they stand on global warming.

(As well as LGBTQ+ rights. Are trans-genders being given equal access to...whatever?)

The democrats have done two things right in my lifetime that I can think of.

One: Clinton told insurance companies that they have to allow women 48 hours in the hospital after giving birth rather than 24, if they so desire. I was kicked out after 24 hours with my first, pre-Clinton, and was allowed to stay 48 hours with my next three. It’s a huge difference, those extra 24 hours with a new baby recovering from childbirth in a hospital with nurses around. I’m forever grateful to Clinton for that, the best and most practical thing a democrat policy change has ever done for me.

And I do have to say that the heavy LA smog of the 1970s (when I moved away) had gotten a lot better by the 1990s, after Clean Air Act changes. But now of course it’s all smoky with wildfires, due to Dem mismanagement, so. . . so much for that.

And I’ll add that (before my lifetime) the Shirtwaist fire in NY did lead to Dem’s efforts toward unionization and protections for workers so they didn’t have to die in fires on the job. That was important. But those unions have now long since outlasted their usefulness.

Nice. Thank you for the insight.

What’s interesting, they do that with your hospital stay. But at the same time usher in HMOs and all sorts of other stuff. My mom was an office manager for a doctor. Old school kind of guy. Prior to their intervention into medicine, she said things were so easy. After, it was a disaster.

But thanks again for the insight.

America needs to do some soul searching and stop pretending that the swamp is not real. 9/11/21 will mean different things to Americans. I cannot imagine the government, media and Taliban sh*tshow that will come.

“ Biden convened his top advisers”. Does ANYONE still believe Joe Biden knows what f*cking day it is let alone make a call to “convene” his top advisors. Joe’s in his rocking chair eating tapioca pudding and watching three stooges reruns.

I live in the SF Bay Area and so have to find commonalities or agreement with SOME Dem policies or I’d have no friends at all. As a result I have to be a bit of a “crunchy con,” although it’s great to be my 100% true self when I hang out with my “Deplorable” friends.

Too bad Dems will never list anything great conservatives have done, which is A LOT. And today’s cluster in Afghanistan is historic. Living through history is amazing. I only recently learned the details of the Fall of Saigon from Ken Burns’ Vietnam documentary. This seems all too similar and some here who lived through it are saying even worse.

I have to agree that this is worse.

If for no other reason than what happened Sept 12, 2012

Something like that should never be allowed to happen again.

Especially given the capabilities we have and I’m thinking there has to be a way to make communications with Taliban leadership.

At this point tell them to hold what they got. Allow the evac. If they flinch, turn Kabul into a parking lot and then send in everyone and takeover the entire country.

Move all the illegals there and let them mine the copper and whatever else they have.

I actually can’t. However I can’t really think of too many things the GOP has done, especially lately that they’ve done right. Interstate Highway System. Columbia River Project?

One of them will leak it to the Taliban and the mission will get blown out of the sky again.

Why did he wait to evacuate the embassy?

The way I see the events events on the ground in Afghanstan and the progression of actions by the Biden Administration is that it has been planned all along. For the last 18 months of the Trump Adminstration there was relative peace. Not a single American soldier killed. Overnight, when Biden took office, everything Trump worked towards was scaped, primarily all negotiations between the Afghan government and the Taliban on a power sharing agreement.

Trump applied pressure. This was the main condition for complete US military withdrawal. Biden removed all pressure. He was weak.

The Taliban smelled that weakness like sharks can smell blood. The Taliban began taking territory. Biden didn't do jack about it. The Afghan Army repeatedly surrendered and defected to the Taliban. That continues to today. Just this morning the commander of an entire division of the Afghan Army didn't just surrender, he defected with his troops and arms to the Taliban. That's after we spent $88 Billion on training and arming them.

Biden wants out of Afghanistan, but he suffers from TDS so much he won't do the things Trump was doing to get out safely. His advisors are not telling the truth. They are being political. Their politics have nothing to with America First. That is so antithetical to them, it affects every bit of advice and decision they have made.

That includes the answer to your question. Why did he wait? A microcosm is the purpose of Ft. Lee, VA - a military base. Prior to the decision to change Trump's condition-based withdrawal with targets for a May implementation to Biden's free-for-all 9/11 date, the Biden Administration was turning Ft. Lee upside down to house illegal immigrants crossing our southern border. Going back even further, when Biden was VP under Obama, Ft. Lee was turned upside down for Syrian immigrates. Is Ft. Lee an immigration center or a military base? Most recently, the last couple of months, Ft. Lee was preparing for Afghan immigrants. Illegals from the south, Syrians, and Afghans are Biden's priorities. It is all clear in his actions. This past Thursday, 1,200 Afghan immigrants were airlifted to Ft. Lee from Kabul. There were multiple flights leaving Kabul that could have been filled with Americans, but America is last with Biden.

I do not want stinkin' illegals from the south. I do not want Syrians. I do not want Afghanis. The reasons at the core are the same. They are illiterate. The do not speak our language. They do not care about being American. They will take either our tax dollars or American jobs. The Syrians and Afghanis have the added bonus of being pedophile prophet worshiping death cultists. I have zero desire for any new immigrants to America, but even more so Muslim immigrants. Real Americans have zero in common with these scum.

Biden sees them as potential Democrat voters. They will one day be granted amnesty or outright citizenship. Current American citizens be damned. American troops be put in harms way. My SIL was deployed Thursday night. This is personal to me, my daughter and grandson. Americans could have left earlier this week. Actually none of this would be required if Biden continued with Trump's foreign policy.

Biden is America last. He doesn't give two schiffs about American lives, American embassy workers, American troops, American jobs, American taxpayers, American businesses, or the American economy. Everything he does is wrong for America.

Sorry for the rant, but that is my take on Biden waiting to evac the embassy. Biden is America last.
