Treasury sends $15 billion in August child tax credit payments © istock Millions of households received their second monthly payment of the expanded child tax credit this week, with the Treasury Department saying Friday $15.4 billion was disbursed.

“Today 61 million children across America are benefiting from the advance Child Tax Credit, helping families put food on the table and meet the needs of the next generation,” said Treasury Deputy Secretary Wally Adeyemo in a statement.

“We want every eligible family to have access to the advance Child Tax Credit, which is why we will continue our outreach efforts to drive enrollment as our children return to school.”

We reward the non producers and punish the producers. Call me crazy, but this just doesn’t seem like a recipe for economic success.

I am seriously thinking of going to a street corner and begging. Why not?

Here's the deal. Quit whatever job you have. Sign up for the full ride with public assistance. Rent, food, cell phones, utilities, transportation (they must have something for transportation out there, right?). Get the government to pay for all of your living expenses. Get some nominal part time job so that you can get a nice Earned Income Tax Credit. THEN, go find some under-the-table job. Get paid in cash. Pay no taxes. Make your own hours. Everything you make there will be walkin' around money. No need to beg when there is so much scamming available.

How is this a "tax credit"? A true tax credit is an amount you can deduct from the taxes you pay. This is a welfare handout.

I remember when "investment" only meant money you put into a business, expecting a profit. Then during the 1980s, when Reaganomics became popular, the Left starting calling welfare an "investment." They were "investing" in education, or "investing" in health care, or "investing" in government services.

yes, “refundable tax credit” is quite a construct. But the EITC is very popular with Republicans, too.

The kids don’t get the check. duh. Food on the table? Pfft. Drugs, vodka or color TVs maybe. Money transferred to Mexico and PR probably.

I hope there is an investigation on what the recipients really do with handouts. It will be a juicy corruption story.

Just realized we forgot to unenroll this morning.

People don’t realize it isn’t a refund, it is an advance. You may have to pay it back.

I don’t want it.

It is not the recipe for any success except to bring down the country. Citizen of the world now, from my work to your pockets....love it.

I am rapidly approaching my 76th and my health is declining. I am going to have a personal reset sooner than I would like but the result will be I probably will not be here for the end of the US unless for two things...it happens very quickly or some miracle happens and we are able to stem the decent.

Cloward Piven folks.

The only mistake they’re making is thinking they’re still going to be alive after the crash.

I have a relative with 2 million bucks in the bank making about 200K a year on investments, water front property, paying 10K a year in property taxes. A 30 foot 100K boat, filled with gas every week.

He’s getting about 650 bucks a month for the tax credit with three kids.

There is a free lunch.

I’d prefer a child tax credit for school choice.

I agree, I do not want it either. However, the hoops you have to jump through to not get it are crazy. Easier to get it and leave it in the bank or buy silver with it.

That “investment” in the social services racket has paid itself trillions in the last few years (as in, gov’t printing money for itself).
