I lugged boxes of rock & roll vinyl around for decades (in my younger years). Loved those head-pounding sounds and the groups producing that stuff. As technology changed, the media got smaller and smaller until today...ALL of that music is on a thumbnail-size microSD card in the memory slot of my Android phone. If my phone dies...I just pull the card and go to the next phone.
All that being said, I hardly ever listen to the music on the card anymore. I just hit the Pandora icon and let it shuffle thru any of the 50 “stations” I’ve got lined up. And, I’ll confess, there’s a lot of easy-listening music on that list. Helen Jane Long, Ludivico Einaudi, Nick Cave & Warren Ellis, Clint Mansell & Kronos, Michelle McLaughlin, Stephen Moccio. Still love the rock & roll, still have the vinyl...but who knows what’s next in this life.
I also like listening to Julie London records, not so much because of her smoky voice but because I like her musical settings and from what I understand she recorded the number of albums in her living room with Jazz combos.
And of course there’s the Jackie Gleason romantic torch albums with Bobby Hackett on trumpet, whew...
