Here’s the problem: the FBI wants agents to talk to the media in order to shape news stories and burnish the Bureau’s image. On the whole, as a policy matter, those also help with accountability. It seems to me though that strict internal guidelines and monitoring by the IG would do much to remedy the problem, along with other reforms like body cameras on raids and arrests and the routine recording of witness interviews.
Agreed. But the story states FBI agents who were NOT authorized to talk with the media were in fact, cultivating alliances that paid the individual agent with game tickets, golf outings and the like.
THOSE ARE THE AGENTS THAT MUST GO.
