There’s conflicting data about how effective the vaccines are at blocking infections in the Delta variant, with estimates anywhere from 39% to 90%. But it’s still blocking a certain level of infections despite the fact that the Delta variant includes structural changes in the protein targeted by the vaccines which render previous antibodies less effective. This is also a problem for people previously infected with COVID-19. Roughly 1 in 6,000 who already had COVID-19 are getting infected with the Delta variant. Thankfully, most of those infections appear to be milder than the first round those people had.
