We had a nasty derecho in Iowa last year. The national media didn't cover it much tho, because it popped up out of nowhere basically, and people had about an hour's notice. (so the TV nets couldn't get people there and breathlessly opine on the coming danger)

It was about a 60 mile wide path of winds from 75 to 120MPH. Way worse then most hurricanes, but again, because it was in BF Iowa, the national media didn't care.

They’d care a lot more if it had caused a problem with food production.
