State Rep. Jake Ellzey of Waxahachie beat fellow Republican Susan Wright on Tuesday to succeed her late husband, U.S. Rep. Ron Wright, R-Arlington, and pull off a major upset against a candidate backed by former President Donald Trump.

With all precincts reporting Wednesday morning, Ellzey got 53% of the vote, while Susan Wright, a longtime GOP activist, received 47%, according to unofficial results.

The crowd was not several thousand, but about 500,000.

The reason Club for Growth went after Ellzey is that they wanted Susan Wright to win is all I can figure out. They were ruthless. Ellzey ran in 2018 and lost to Ron Wright by 1k votes. I think a lot of previous voters voted for him again and the other high vote getter Republican on May 1 endorsed him. They were both from the same county and the voters there didn’t like their State Rep being trashed.

I will say it again as I said it For May 1 Election, Trump should have stayed out of this one! He also has endorsed Abbott for reelection which is ticking people off with other MAGA candidates in the TX Governor’s race.

“Ellzey’s vote was also likely buoyed by Democrat voters.”

Why on Earth do Republicans CONTINUE to allow open voting in primaries? You should have to be a bona fide Republican - as in being registered Republican for at least 1 or 2 years - before being eligible to vote in a REPUBLICAN primary. By the way, ditto for the Dems. Open voting is STUPID!!!!!!!!

Which, by the way, is what the Republican Party is on the national level and on the state level in most cases. They’re not called “The Stupid Party” for nothing - and this abortion of a primary is just further evidence of that fact.

Lol! Hahaha! It couldn’t be that people in that district just didn’t want her (or Trumps pick). It must be fraud! Lol.

You’re right about Trump acting too hastily sometimes, but the emails Ellzey sent me made him look attactive...not in the physical way...but policies he mentioned.

Sometimes,Stephen Moore should stay out of it, too.

Regards and thanks.

I do not believe that Mr. Trump’s legacy will still shine because both the Dems and RINOS will over step their boundaries and I see in effect, that there will be a “red tide” coming. REMEMBER that the party in 🔋 power WILL have to deal with big political losses.

Correction: I do believe that Mr. Trump’s legacy will SHINE because there WILL BE A LOT OF VOTER REGRETS come 2022.

Go suck on a tailpipe. The guy literally campaigned against Trump for Democrat votes and got them. I could give two hoots what you think about me.

That’s not what people from Texas on this message board are saying.
Are you calling them liars?
And you don’t need to get snide with me, you exposed yourself as the liar.

I’m sorry but I see no evidence of the destruction of Tump’s legacy....and I see plenty of evidence to suggest that neither do the Democrats.

Do you have any actual proof that Bill endorsed this guy? Cause Rick Perry who worked for Trump actually supported this guy too

Don’t recall where I read it first, but Rick Perry is a Bush League Republican too so that endorsement is not something that encourages me.
