I am not defending the handouts but 94% of the US economy is functioning and doing well. We found out that 6% of the us economy is based on the low skill / low pay model . This is a lot smaller part of GDP than we all thought it was...

Why aren’t wages shooting up through the roof?

This state does blow. What Prickster is allowing makes absolutely no sense. Everywhere around here I’m seeing “We’re Hiring!” signs, and I know that nobody is applying. Honestly, I’m tempted to ask a local locksmith if they’ll apprentice me.

“In Illinois alone, there are tens of thousands of unfilled jobs. Employers are offering substantially higher wages, employment bonuses and taking other steps to encourage people to return to work,” the chamber wrote in an open letter to Gov. J.B. Pritzker. “The problem is employers cannot compete with the approximate $35 per hour unemployed workers have received over the last four months as a result of enhanced UI benefits, tax credits, and stimulus payments.”
Good thing Pritzker was sent that letter, he'd run out of taxpayer $100 bills to light his cigars.

I must be missing something.
When you collect Unemployment you are supposed to be looking for work. You can’t “voluntarily” collect Unemployment because you just don’t want to work, right?
For most of the past year, States got rid of work search requirements because the lockdowns meant no one was really hiring. They've mostly reinstated those requirements, but I'm sure for most people it's easy to accomplish the 3-5 activities per week and avoid the places that you know are willing to hire you. Or just not respond when the company contacts you, so they never giver you a job offer. You applied, which checks off one of the boxen for that week. And no one offered you a job, so you don't have to explain why you didn't take it.
Luckily, Texas dropped the bonus stuff, so there's no extra $$ per week, and the 13-week extension is gone too.

How our entire system of Government hasn’t collapsed under its own weight simply amazes me.
There is massive Fraud and Waste (in my best Carl Sagan, billions and billions) in every Government “program” and they keep passing out borrowed money like Candy.

Lack of accountability. Bread and circi. Entrenched establishment. The almighty dollar.
No one really oversights this stuff, and the people lack sufficient civic knowledge (education) and just don't care. The people in the system like it and aren't gonna make change, and outsiders have a hard time getting in to see anything, or have sufficient numbers to do anything about it before they're subsumed as well. Man is too fallible. Ever wonder why conservative judges/reps/etc are 50/50 good picks vs major disappointments? Ever hear of a liberal pick heavily turning conservative? And collapse can;t really happen because the world is stuck on the teat of the dollar, so they go along with all this because if the dollar fails, the world fails.
