A man sentenced to death in the US state of California for murdering a 12-year-old girl and four other women has died of natural causes, officials say.
Rodney Alcala, 77, died at a hospital near California's Corcoran state prison in the early hours of Saturday.
Alcala, who was known as the "Dating Game Killer" after taking part in a US TV show, was convicted in 2010.
As well as the California killings, he had also pleaded guilty to the murders of two other women in New York.

Funny thing about this case I heard secondhand but believe.
I came to Columbia several years later and have never heard of this incident.
The place I worked had this really creepy older guy who was rather frail. He was also a trust fund baby but lived like a pauper. There were many strange stories about dude floating around. Most I kind of dismissed as to absurd. One I heard from a guy that I totally believed and backed up by a few others came up a few times.
Short version- if you wanted the guy to stop talking, mention the missing girl’s name.
The average 10 year old could beat this guy up.
I don’t know and I have no doubt he was checked on.
The guy has so many strange stories that I could fill a few pages here. Most are plain silly.
Only in America. In my home country he won’t last a week after death sentence
...well Rodney, adios, but know that millions of us, mostly men, would have preferred that you be taken out and shot five minutes after the jury verdict along with the 700 other oddballs on California’s so called “death row”.
Try to imagine what death row cost California citizens in dollars.
Aw.
Evil, evil man.
I have listened to podcasts with single episodes about Alcala & while I cannot recall specifically which ones, here is one by Wondery with a series of episodes about him - anything by them is usually pretty good:

Description
In 1978, Rodney Alcala won a date on the popular TV show, The Dating Game. What no one knew was that he was a prolific serial killer in the middle of a cross-country murder spree. In this six-part series, co-hosts Tracy Pattin (Hollywood & Crime) and Stephen Lang (Avatar, Don’t Breathe) take listeners on an unbelievable journey into Alcala’s twisting secret life. He hid behind normal jobs as a typesetter at a prominent newspaper and a summer camp counselor. How did this predatory monster fool employers, prison psychiatrists, and parole boards — all while committing heinous crimes from coast to coast? And how did a one-time appearance as a game show contestant help lead to his capture? From the makers of Dirty John, Dr. Death, and Young Charlie, learn the story of the most famous serial killer you’ve never heard of - The Dating Game Killer.
I read that the woman who “won” a date with him refused to see him because she found him too creepy. Smart gal!
The guy was harmless and had a heart condition.
He would bother women some then figure out he was not wanted.
I’m not sure what became of him after he was laid off when the whole department was eliminated. I had moved up.
Yes, thats true. Just imagine how shes felt over the years
This guy didnt die soon enough
Well, at least justice was done for the victims.
/Sarcasm
May he rot in the deepest part of Hell. His victims never got to died of old age like this bag of crap. Yet he died of natural causes they say. He needed to suffer like he did with his victims. Thanks to the Liberal Demoncrats there will never be justice for victims.
We shouldn’t have to wait this long to execute these cretins.
5 years max.
