San Francisco local businesses and employees are calling for change as they describe increasingly brazen shoplifting and car break-ins.

Many residents told Fox News they believe changing California law Proposition 47 is the solution.

"The police are actually wonderful, their hands are tied, that’s what’s going on out here." Gianni, a local who works in Fisherman’s Wharf, told Fox News.

San Francisco Police Department's Public Information Officer, Robert Rueca explained "There’s a threshold of 950 dollars that needs to be met in order for a misdemeanor to turn into a felony when it comes to theft."

"We have to enforce the current laws we have," Rueca added.

Mario Ruiz, a San Francisco employee near Union Square, felt because of this law "there’s no penalty to shoplift."

Really? Tell that to the boarder police about Federal Law on illegal boarder crossings.

I remember San Francisco is a sanctuary city, they would not work with ICE when prisoners were released from the jail that had an ICE hold on them. How is that working with the laws we have?

In the 1850s San Francisco had corrupt politicians and rampant crime much like today. The citizens formed a Vigilance Committee with its own law enforcement and justice system. That is what they need to do again today.

What everyone needs to be aware of is that the “AMISH TYPES” are targeting TOURIST RENTAL CARS. They look for rental cars, smash the widows and steal everything in the car. They are doing it in broad daylight. They know you the police will do nothing about it.

SO, IF you have to travel to San Fran. Do not leave anything in your rental ever. Probably good advice for any rental car these days.

Personally, the last time I went to Hawaii from the east coast, I chose to fly direct from Boston to Honolulu as opposed to stopping in LA, SF, LV or SeaTac.

Businesses who wont confront shoplifters are complaining about shoplifting…. I don’t feel sorry for them

Shoplifting is functionally not a crime - but confronting shoplifters is. And if they don’t get someone for assault, they will sue.

You tell them to stop…. And during the confrontation you become in fear for your life

Exactly! They voted for this idiocy and the idiots promoting and enforcing it. When all the stores close let them ponder, where can I go to buy groceries?

Next up delivery trucks such as UPS/FEDEX, already being hit will come under furious attacks by the criminal element as people start just trying to get basic life needs. Mad Max World anyone??? Again, they ASKED FOR IT, NO SYMPATHY!!!
