It would come down to how many people knew. I agree that huge conspiracy theories that require the silence of hundreds or even dozens simply aren’t realistic. That many people and someone is going to talk.
But, if you can pull this off with a handful of people, well....that’s a different story.

As I recall there were reports of many people mysteriously dying shortly thereafter (not vouching for validity, but I think up to thirty).
And that number would not include anyone in the know, just ‘pain in the a**’ witnesses.
